GLADUE, GERALD PAUL, 92, of Smithville, Galloway Township, formerly of Stone Harbor passed away peacefully on Monday, March 6, 2017 with family and hospice members at his side. Loving husband, amazing Dad, thoughtful engineer and “always working on a project” builder, was escorted by Saint Therese of the little flower into the hands of Our Lord.
Gerald (aka Jerry) retired in 1985 following a long business career where he guided several companies (Raytheon, General Electric, Allied Corporation) through the transition into the modern era of computing.
Born in Warren, Rhode Island and raised in Bennington, Vermont, he attended Syracuse University for one year before joining the Army to serve in World War II in the European Theater of Operations (ETO). When the war was over, while waiting to return stateside, he played trumpet in an Army dance band and visited Lourdes. He graduated from Syracuse University with an Engineering Degree and an MBA.
He married Skip (aka Gertrude) Pierce in 1958 and raised six children: Marie, Peter, Annie, Paul, James and Thomas. They also have two grandchildren: Andrew and Adrianna.
Along with being a loving husband, father and grandfather, he shall be remembered for being a builder who meticulously developed a number of projects, and upon retirement, his civic duties as a Councilman in the shore town of Stone Harbor, New Jersey. He was also quite the sports fan with a love for Syracuse basketball, Phillies baseball and the Philadelphia Eagles.
A Visitation will be held on Monday, March 13, 2017 from 11:00 am until the time of the Funeral Liturgy at Noon at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Parish Assumption Church, 146 South Pitney Road, Galloway, NJ 08205. Funeral Arrangements are under the direction of Riggs Funeral Home, Forked River.
